Who Was Timothy A. Maslyn

By Janine Maslyn

Every artist seeks the environment that inspires creativity and the freedom to create. Tim a man gifted with the ability to transform his vision into three dimensional sculptures found that. His journey began when he came to the fork in the road; he took it, as Yogi Berra had once said. Tim had the great honor and opportunity in 2001 of meeting and presenting Yogi Berra Yogi with the sculpture “Full Swing” sculpted by his mentor, the late world-renowned sculptor, Joseph Brown of Princeton University at a banquet sponsored by Project Pride, a group dedicated to giving Newark kids the same opportunity as suburban kids where Yogi Berra was being honored as their man of the year.

About the Art

What matters most to me – Continuing on Our dream when we had our studio. Our dream together was to spend more time with each other. We found that we could create this dream through starting our business. The dream to work together not only as husband and with but as business partners allowing us to use our skills we both have that are complimentary in our working studio to create and sell Tim’s sculptures. Our joy came from being able to be close to our young daughters whiole earning a living. We had many plans in our future to grow and expand our business.

Sisteen years ago, our dream was crushed, with the death of Timohty, I closed the studio. Even though Tim passed, the dream we had took a slumber. As the slumber awakened, the dream began to come alive. It took time but now I have decided to continue our dream. Even though Tim is not with me physically, he is with me in my heart and in spirit. His work is alive and now my dream to continue is a reality. I look forward to accomplishing the things Tim and I wanted to do decade ago.
To me sculpture can only be described as Quiet Beauty. What do I mean by Quiet Beauty. The beauty of art and why we have it in our life is that it speaks differently from different perspectives. A sculpture is 3-dimensional, you just don’t view it from one perspective but a perspective that takes you around the piece. As you move around the piece you see something differed tand different take hold .The artist design and certainly captures the beauty in completeness. That is why sculpture should have a distinctive and accessible view of the piece. It draws the eye and then one is invited moving towards the piece with intrigue and interest to connect feeling to the heart. All done in the silence of the heart. Love begins to swell in the heart and the heart allows the memory to travel back to that place of time of significance. The heart begins to smile, and the effect is known. One can see Joy in that moment of the heart going back and the beauty of the sculpture has made its impression in the Quiet Beauty of the sculpture.
