In the world of commemorative sculpture, few subjects resonate more deeply than those that honor our first responders. The Fireman, a life-size bronze monument created by sculptor Timothy Maslyn, stands as a powerful tribute to the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect their communities. Commissioned to mark the 100th anniversary of the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in June of 1998, this remarkable statue was installed at the entrance of the home in Boonton, New Jersey, where it continues to inspire respect and remembrance.
Timothy collaborated closely with the Hunterdon County Manager, to bring this vision to life. Their goal was clear: to create a monument that would honor the courage, resilience, and selflessness of firefighters across generations. Understanding the weight of the project, Timothy began by crafting a maquette — a small-scale clay model that would serve as the blueprint for the final sculpture. After thorough refinement and approval, the model was cast in bronze, giving form to a figure that now stands as a symbol of bravery and public service.
This life-size bronze statue captures the timeless essence of a firefighter — steadfast, alert, and ready to respond. Every line and detail was sculpted with care, reflecting not just the physical presence of the fireman, but the emotional and spiritual strength that comes with the uniform. It is a tribute not only to individual heroes but to the legacy of those who have served and continue to serve.
Maslyn Studios is proud to offer bronze sculpture model of The Fireman to those seeking to honor their own. This sculpture is more than art — it is a lasting symbol to duty, sacrifice, and community.
The New Jersey Firemen’s Home, established in 1898, remains the only licensed health care facility in the state dedicated exclusively to serving the needs of New Jersey’s firefighting community. This sculpture stands proudly at its entrance — a lasting reminder of the noble calling answered by so many.
